Paul was born in Hollywood, California and during his early years was raised in the Middle East. He returned to the U.S. and attended the University of Washington, initiating into the Washington Alpha Chapter and graduating with a BA in Communications. Shortly thereafter, as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, he was assigned to the Office of Chief of Information at the Pentagon, prior to arriving in Tehran, Iran as Officer-in-Charge of the Armed Forces Radio and Television station operation. After a full year of Persian (Farsi) language instruction at the U.S. Army Language School in Monterey, California, he returned to Iran as the U.S. Army Airborne-Special Forces Advisor to the Imperial Iranian Army.
In 1965 Paul left the Army temporarily to obtain a Masters in Middle Eastern studies, which he received in 1967 from the American University in Beirut, Lebanon. He then returned to Iran to become the General Manager of Television of Iran. In 1968 he became a Contract Supervisor to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Saudi Arabia, involved in the Army’s operation and maintenance of the Saudi Arabian Television Network.
Paul continued to experience professional success being employed as a Sales Director for companies such as the AVCO Corporation and United Technologies while living in the Middle East. Later Brother Wineman formed his own company to assist American companies wishing to do business in the Middle East and maintained residency in Beirut, Lebanon until 1984. Today Paul continues to negotiate contracts and train American corporations in negotiation tactics and techniques.
Throughout his fraternal journey Brother Wineman has been active with both his chapter and also on the national level. His involvement became greater since his first appointment to the Foundation’s Board of Trustees in March of 2003. Since that time, he has spoken to and interacted with thousands of Phi Psi undergraduates and alumni members. During his service to the Foundation he traveled to chapters, along with Brother Nelson, and delivered captivating programs built around the Fraternity’s Ritual and what it means to be a Phi Psi. He also developed a negotiating curriculum which he continues to share through speaking engagements and a printed text.
From 2006 to 2010 Brother Wineman served on the Fraternity’s Executive Council. During his terms as Vice President and President he worked to build upon the existing relationships the Executive Council and Headquarters team had with local chapters and house corporations and strived to strengthen these associations. He also encouraged and fostered the development of a mentoring culture within Phi Psi and his work served as the impetus for the Fraternity’s newest mentoring initiatives.
Paul resides in Marina Del Ray, California with his wife.
